This paper addresses the irritating issue of language question in Nigeria by exploring the bridging role of the English Language. It foregrounds that though the continuous use of English as the nation's lingua Franca is equivalent to permanent colonialism /imperialism, and no indigenous language is introduced to take the position of the English Language. On the grounds of the increasing mutual suspicion and linguistic rivalry in the various enthno-linguistic groups, English Language will continue to be vibrant. For decades, the argument of English only or bilingual in an ESL classroom has persisted. These writers, therefore, submit that English appears to have been seriously attached to the destiny of Nigeria. And any attempt to change the status quo in favour of any of the indigenous language will lead to a chain of Socio-political crises that may threaten the corporate existence of Nigeria. It is ultimately suggested the national conference, which is being clamoured by some segments of Nigeria, will be of immense help to the language problem as well as other problems that the country is facing.
